Aman Palestine, a non-governmental organisation backed by several established NGOs in the country, was launched in Kuala Lumpur today.

Among those involved in the new movement are Jemaah Islah Malaysia (JIM), Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (Abim), Aman Malaysia and Global Peace Malaysia.

Aman Palestine vice-president Abdullah Abdul Atwat said the group would help in all ways possible the Palestinians who are suffering from Israeli oppression.

"We will try to gain the support from the Islamic community in Malaysia in facing Israel's invasion in Palestine and the pressure of the current regime towards the Hamas government," he said at today's launching ceremony.

A Palestinian representative, Shamsul Maarif Ismail, was also present at the event. - Wong Yeen Fern
