Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib, 38, the younger son of Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud, has resigned as group chairperson of the Taib family-controlled Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd (CMSB) from July 1.

However, he remains as a non-independent and non executive director of the public-listed company.

The announcement was made by the company to Bursa Malaysia on June 30.

A Bangkok Bank director Syed Zainal Anwar ibni Syed Putra Jalallulai, 54, has been appointed CMSB group chairperson from the same date. Syed Zainal is also a brother of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong

Taib's wife Laila, his two sons Sulaiman and Mahmud Abu Bekir and other family members hold a controlling stake in CMSB which has interests in banking, financial services, construction and manufacturing.
