Malaysia is expected to secure US$55 million worth of road and rail projects in Pakistan.

Works Minister S Samy Vellu said Malaysia will sign a memorandum of understanding to build elevated highways in Rawalpindi and Karachi.

"This would cost US$55 million," he was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times newspaper adding Malaysia had proposed to build a light rail transit system in Karachi.

"We submitted a conceptual report. They have asked us to do a feasibility report," he said.

Samy Vellu said Pakistan has requested Malaysia increase its investments in the country. Other areas identified by Islamabad included the building of ports, airports and bridges, the newspaper said.
