Malaysia will build a 13.4 kilometer railroad linking the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) with the new budget airport, said Transport minister Chan Kong Choy.

"It would take off next year," Transport minister Chan Kong Choy was quoted as saying by the official Bernama news agency.

Chan said a detailed study of the project would be carried out by the Economic Planning Unit and submitted to the government in two months.

The study would look into whether the project would be 100 percent funded by the government, partially funded or a private-sector initiative, he said.

Chan said the rail project would cut travel time between the two airports, located south of the capital Kuala Lumpur to 11 minutes from the current 20 minutes by road.

The minister did not say how much the project will cost.

Chan said ERL, the operator of the high speed train between KL Sentral and KLIA had submitted a proposal to build the rail link.
