Anti-hopping bill trips on a hurdle
The anti-party hopping bill has tripped on a hurdle just days before it was supposed to be debated in the Dewan Rakyat.
The cabinet has decided to take a step back, and instead table a bill that would only amend the Federal Constitution to make room for a proper anti-hopping legislation in the future.
The exact details of the revised bill are unknown at the moment.
The bill would have previously triggered a by-election if an MP quits; is sacked from his or her party; joins a new party; or if an independent MP joins a party.

Malay protector argument smashed
The claim that Malays want a protector to fulfil a neo-feudal mindset was smashed by opposition leaders.
Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said the so-called protectors had lived in luxury while Malays and other Malaysians languished.
PKR's Rafizi Ramli, meanwhile, said the Malay voters have become savvier and that Bersatu risks a wipe out if it perpetuates outdated beliefs.
Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal - who made the claim - clarified that he too was opposed to the neo-feudal mindset, but said it was a fact, nonetheless.

Rafizi pushes for anti-bailout law
PKR deputy president candidate Rafizi Ramli wants his party to draft a bill that would restrict the government from bailing out companies.
The bill would require any bailout to get approval from Parliament first.
Rafizi said such a law is necessary to curb crony capitalism, which has plagued various administrations.
The proposal was his latest salvo against former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, who has been lobbying the government to bail out troubled Sapura Energy Bhd.
