Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has defended not announcing specific details on how the upcoming targeted diesel subsidies will work.
According to him, not everything needed to be done by the prime minister, and that his job was just to give an overview and that others would provide the details.
In this case, the implementation mechanism and date of the targeted diesel subsidy will be explained by Finance Minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan.
This is not unusual for Anwar.
During the 2024 Budget speech, the premier announced that the quantum for the Rahmah Cash Aid (STR) was increased to RM3,700.
It was days later when it was revealed that the maximum STR payout was still RM2,500, but that recipients would also be getting Rahmah basic necessities aid (Sara) of up to RM1,200.

EC deputy chief speaks out
Deputy Election Commission (EC) chairperson Azmi Sharom called for transparency in appointing commissioners to the agency.
Azmi admitted that the appointment process of EC commissioners, himself included, is “shrouded in secrecy and opaque practices”.
The EC chairperson post is currently vacant.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says a replacement candidate has been identified.
However, he indicated that the appointment would follow the current processes instead of being vetted by Parliament.

Police probe M'kini columnist
Police have opened an investigation paper against Malaysiakini columnist Andrew Sia over his opinion piece “Our apartheid academy, UiTM”
This is after multiple police reports were lodged against Sia.
The case is being investigated under intentional insult to provoke a breach of the peace (Section 504 of the Penal Code), using network facilities to transmit communications that could be deemed offensive (Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act) and the use of insulting words (Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act).
