Romans fortunate they faced Attila the Hun, not Najib
The Romans should count themselves fortunate that they only had to contend with Attila the Hun, the so-called “Scourge of God”, notorious for plundering, pillaging and sacking cities, and not Najib Abdul Razak.
This is because former High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah said the former Malaysian prime minister made the feared Hun ruler look like a “choirboy”.
Sequerah, now a Federal Court judge, made the remark in his 810-page grounds of judgment on the 1MDB scandal.
Najib, who has been imprisoned since 2022, and his supporters have long maintained that he was denied a fair trial despite the 1MDB scandal making headlines around the world.
In the judgment, Sequerah also noted that the former premier had shown no remorse for his role in the affair and had instead sought to shift the blame onto others.

J-Kom DG claims ‘Cina Sesat’ lost in misrepresentation
Newly minted Community Communications Department (J-Kom) director-general Hisyamuddin Ghazali, who came under fire for making several controversial statements, denied that his “Cina Sesat” (lost Chinese) remark was racist against the Chinese community.
He argued that the remark was only aimed at two individuals whom he accused of slandering the government - Albert Tei and Eric See-To - and had been deliberately misrepresented.
Hisyamuddin lamented attempts to portray the post as an attack on the Chinese community.
“I deeply regret the irresponsible actions of certain parties who deliberately twisted the post to create the false impression that I was attacking the entire Chinese community,“ he said.
However, Hisyamuddin also apologised and promised to be more cautious with his words in future.
“I sincerely regret any mistakes or misunderstandings arising from the matter that may have offended individuals who were not involved. I take full responsibility and will exercise greater caution in managing my social media posts in the future,” he said.

Poster on ‘perks’ for student converts sparks call for probe
A DAP senator has called for an investigation into a poster bearing the name of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) that promotes the registration of new Muslim converts.
While acknowledging the Perak-based institution’s clarification that the poster had not been approved before circulation, Dr RA Lingeshwaran said the matter still warrants a probe due to public concern.
A copy of the poster, which has been circulating online and is alleged to have been published yesterday, lists purported “benefits” for UPSI students who register as converts to Islam.
The poster carries the logos of UPSI, the university’s Islamic centre, its student affairs and alumni departments, the Malaysia Madani emblem, and states that students who convert may be entitled to free education.
