‘TM Nut' is the synonym used by many of my friends and gamers from other countries who experience our poor Internet speed whilst communicating and playing Internet games with us.

It is very embarrassing in an ever-connected world for our country to be recognised as having the poorest delivery of stable Internet due solely to an overweight, inefficient ‘TM Nut' who has a virtual monopoly on the gateways.

Other competitors have no choice but to purchase data bandwidth which TM Net controls which gives TM Net an unfair advantage and only serves to make this dinosaur continue to deliver poor service at exorbitant prices.

I am merely echoing the majority of Internet users in Malaysia who have grown very impatient with a company that continues to provide poor Internet services similar to our civil service.

Now, RM11 billion is being given to TM Net to improve broadband coverage by 2011 but every year, the Internet service gets worse.

To emphasise my point, I have extracted a comparison made by Speedtest which measures the Internet speeds of regions and countries in the world and their ranking.

Number 81. This is where we stand with TM Net controlling the gateways and providing an unfair edge for themselves in that other competitors who have to go through them.

Of all the continents, Europe has the fastest average speeds at 5.60Mbps followed by North America at 5.53Mbps. Africa is the lowest at 1.03Mbps.

Given that TM Net only provide a 2 to 4Mbps only for KL (and only certain areas at that) and Cyberjaya, it is pertinent to note that all other cities and areas in Malaysia only get 1Mbps at best.

Our neighbours like Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and other countries are in the Top 20! Africa is the lowest in the world, yet I have gamer friends from that region who laugh at our TM Net speeds.

Well done, TM Net. Whatever name you change to - Axiata or any fancy-sounding name - as long as your poor service continues, you better get used to the whole world calling you TM Nut, Malaysia's Boleh Internet Service Provider.

No 81 in the World, which is in the bottom 30% of the world. I am ashamed for us as Malaysians if you are not ashamed.
