I do not understand why home bakers, both Muslim and non-Muslim, are aghast over McDonald’s Malaysia’s policy barring cakes without halal certification from its premises. Most questioned the necessity for such restrictions, with one claiming that even Muslim countries in the Middle East did not impose such rules.

Consumers should know that it is the right of every business to operate and safeguard its business as it deems fit.

There are many restaurants that have notices such as ‘No outside food allowed’ but no one appears to have been offended by them.

If they are unhappy then they should show their displeasure by not patronising McDonald’s.
