It's so shocking to see so much intolerance over a harmless cartoon in the New Straits Times by the religious extremist groups, more so with Umno Youth joining in the mud-slinging with their outspoken protest.

I really admire the Christians who not only not make loud threatening noises but fork out money to buy and read the book The Da Vinci Code so that they can understand better the notion of others. Incidentally I am a Buddhist.

It's wrong to close The Sarawak Tribune just because of a cartoon and deprive over 300 Malaysians of their livelihood, but two wrongs don't make a right. If you muzzle the voice of moderate Islam, then Islamic extremism will take the lead and the consequences would be frightening.

The ulama , like the police, are getting their priorities wrong. The ulama should be making a lot of noise about corruption, abuse of power, etc rather than delving on petty issues like dressing and cartoon bashing.

The police should likewise send more undercover cops to make the streets safer rather than to spend hours monitoring pubs and discos.
