I refer to the Malaysiakini report Altantuya-Najib allegations resurface.

If Najib Abdul Razak is to become the prime minister of this country, he must clear his name on the issue of the murder of Altantuya and that is to take Raja Petra Kamarudin to court and sue him for all he is worth instead of locking him up under the ISA.

Najib has to take a leaf from our neighbours, Lee Kuan Yew and son in that they never leave any stone unturned when an allegation is made against them. They do this - as anybody else who holds high office is expected to do - to protect the sanctity of the office they hold.

Najib has reportedly sworn his innocence with regards to the Altantuya case and is even reported to have sworn in a mosque during the recent Permatang Pauh by-election campaign.

The Altantuya Shaariibuu case is now back in the news and there is an alleged string of SMSes between Najib and lawyer Muhammad Shafie Abdullah over a period of nearly one month, starting from Nov 8 to Dec 2, 2006, regarding Abdul Razak Baginda and the murder trial.

That is almost two years ago, long before this case even went to trial.

The whole episode just does not look right. A woman is murdered and her body allegedly blown to pieces using C4 explosives. Her immigration records have been erased - who will have the authority to do such a thing?

Can it be investigated? Has it been investigated? The home minister at that time was Radzi Sheikh Ahmad, a lawyer by profession too. Will he shed some light on the matter?

An ex-cop involved in this case makes a statutory declaration alleging Najib's involvement following which he gets called in by the police.

He then makes another statutory declaration disputing his first statutory declaration, holds a ‘press conference’ during which only Bernama was present and then goes missing.

Blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin, who has been writing on this case and who has challenged Najib to take him on has been locked up under the ISA.

A prominent political leader who has been highlighting this issue is being charged for an act of sodomy.

Police involvement in all this that is the murder, the missing ex-cop, the sensational arrest of Anwar Ibrahim, the locking of Raja Petra under the ISA is also cause for concern.

Have the police in their investigations looked into the allegations of Raja Petra Kamarudin? And if they have, what have they discovered? I just hope they did not go to his house to shut him up but rather to investigate all the allegations he made.

There are too many things in this case that are not right at all and Najib needs to come out and clear his name. He can only do it if the PM gets the ex-cop to come back and Najib takes Raja Petra to court to sue him for defamation and maybe even criminal intimidation.

Let me borrow some words from RPK. Like him, I am no lawyer. I may be saying the wrong things here but one thing I know is that lawyers are officers of the court and the courts dispense justice.

So maybe Muhammad Shafee Abdullah can shed some light here or is he entitled to qualified privilege, whatever that means.

The sanctity of the office of prime minister of this country is of paramount interest to all Malaysians and it must be protected at all costs. This is our country and we, the prime minister and every aspiring prime minister has a duty to keep the sanctity of that office intact.
