After her sensational allegation that two PKR members offered bribes to her to withdraw from the Penanti by-election, independent candidate Aminah Abdullah threatens to reveal a secret about the state party leadership, an "unsavoury incident" in a hotel in Nibong Tebal some two years ago.

She challenged PKR Penang chief Zahrain Mohamed Hashim to disclose his involvement in the incident.

"I want to know whether he remember what happened in the hotel in Nibong Tebal?

Aminah wants Zahrain to answer her within the next day or two, otherwise she would disclosed it publicly, she said.

When asked whether she had brought up the issue to the PKR disciplinary board, Aminah claimed to have informed party supremo Anwar Ibrahim and president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

"But nothing was done. It was dismissed and the state leadership instead slammed me with 11 allegations," she lamented, adding that it was one of the reasons she and her family left the party in 2007.

The campaign period ends on Saturday midnight, with polling on Sunday.

PKR duo claims they were set up

Aminah faces PKR’s Mansor Othman, and two other independents, Nai Khan Ari and Kamarul Ramizu Idris in the contest.

Although her campaign has not been impressive, nonetheless she had spiced up the dull electoral battle with the graft allegations on Monday.

Aminah, the former PKR Wanita chief, had lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Monday and also with the Election Commission alleging that two PKR members had offered her RM80,000 and the president's post in any of the two Penang municipal councils if she withdraws from the contest.

Alternately, she said she was offered the Penang deputy chief minister 1 post should she win the by-election and rejoin the party.

They claimed their conversation, which was recorded without their knowledge by Aminah and her family members, was a mere chat among friends done in a cordial and jovial atmosphere.

Aminah refuted claims made Cheah and Lim that she had set them up after inviting them for lunch.

"It was they who invited themselves to my house," she claims, adding that she was yet to receive the legal notice from PKR to retract her claims of being offered inducement allegedly contained in the secret recording.

Aminah receives threatening phone calls

"I want to see the content of the notice before I do anything. I will still stand by the claims I have made," she said, adding that she would get a lawyer to examine the notice.

She also claimed to have received several threatening and lewd calls from anonymous individuals since she revealed the secret recording.

He said since the party had taken legal action on her, he would rather concentrate on the by-election campaign rather indulging in such petty issues.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported that the Election Commission would study the audio recording received from Aminah and cooperate with the MACC in the probe.

"If the PKR candidate is involved, we can disqualify his victory if he wins the by-election," EC chairperson Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof told journalists after visiting Percetakan Nasional Malaysia Bhd in Alor Star today.

He said the EC would be fair and impartial in the investigation as it had to identify those who were involved, and to determine whether the audio recording was genuine.
