PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's unity government proposal continues to create much disunity in Pakatan Rakyat, with DAP stalwart Karpal Singh launching another attack today.

kampung buah pala penang karpal singh meet 120609 03 The opposition leader said the PAS president should think before speaking, adding that Abdul Hadi was fast becoming an embarrassment for the opposition coalition.

Karpal's latest salvo comes in the wake of PAS spiritual adviser calling those who supported the unity government proposal as Umno stooges.

"Abdul Hadi owes an apology to both DAP and PKR as well as Nik Aziz for having proposed unity talks with Umno in a clear breach of sincerity in his dealings with DAP and PKR.

"It is only hoped in future that Abdul Hadi thinks before he talks. He is fast becoming an embarrassment to the Pakatan Rakyat," said Karpal in a statement.

Nik Aziz, who is technically the most powerful person in PAS, said those who supported Abdul Hadi's suggestion to form a unity government with Umno, were ' boneka Umno ' (Umno stooges).

"We can't ignore the decision of the PAS annual general assembly in Ipoh last year... The decision was to strengthen Pakatan Rakyat.

"Those who support the unity (government) are Umno stooges, clearly and obviously," he had said.

On Abdul Hadi's insistence on having a unity government, Nik Aziz said it did not represent the wishes of the party.

"The president is the head of the organisation, but the organisation did not make (such a) decision (to have an unity government). That is his personal opinion," he added.

Abdul Hadi lists conditions

Since March 2008 last year, PAS leaders such as Abdul Hadi and his deputy Nasharuddin Mat Isa have been floating the idea of forging closer ties with Umno.

pas muktamar 55 agm assembly 050609 hadi awang The idea was panned by most delegates during the recently concluded 55th PAS Muktamar (general assembly) in Shah Alam but Abdul Hadi was still adamant about the idea during his winding up speech.

Abdul Hadi also claimed that he had the support of top Pakatan Rakyat leaders, who later distanced themselves from the former's remarks.

Yesterday, the PAS president sought to cool frayed nerves suggesting that such talks can only take place if the Barisan Nasional-ruled federal government frees the judiciary and the media and respects the doctrine of separation of powers.

Until such assurances can be given, Abdul Hadi said all talks about the unity dialogues will remain mere "academic discussions".
