Selangor opposition leader Dr Mohd Khir Toyo today received a letter warning him of dire consequences if he continues with the attempt to overthrow the current state government.

The handwritten two-page letter was posted to the state assemblyperson's Sungai Panjang service centre.

khir toyo pc on khir toyo mansion 060709 Among others the letter stated that if he did not stop trying to topple the Pakatan Rakyat government, "I will look for you in Selangor and I can shoot or use a poison dart to kill you in a few seconds."

Based on the information on the envelope, it is believed the letter was posted in Bukit Raja on Sept 15.

Khir subsequently lodged a report with the Shah Alam police this afternoon.

Contacted later, the former menteri besar said although this was not the first death threat he has received, it was however the first via mail.

"Before this, it was through SMS. That is normal. But letter, this is the first time," he said, adding that he was concerned about his safety.

"It was different back then (when he was MB), I had a personal bodyguard," he said.

'Must be a Pakatan supporter'

Khir, who lodged his police report at 12.54pm, said he stumbled on the two-page letter, handwritten in Bahasa Malaysia, when going though his mail at his office in Glenmarie at 10am.

Speaking to reporters outside the police station in Section 11, Shah Alam, he said the letter had been posted to his constituency office in Sungai Panjang and that his aide had brought it together with Aidilfitri greeting cards sent to him and other mail to the Glenmarie office.

"The letter simply stated that if I did not stop, I would be shot or hit with a poison dart. This has got me worried and that is why I am making this police report," he said.

"It appears that accusations levelled at me that I am trying to topple the Pakatan Rakyat government in Selangor have reached a very serious level.

"The writer wrote that he could take me out at anytime, whether in Sungai Panjang, Sungai Besar , Sungai Dorani or Shah Alam," he said, adding that he was the only target and would be taking extra precautions in his movements following the threat.

When asked if he had any idea who might be behind the letter, Khir said the person must probably be a Pakatan supporter but it was best to leave it to the police to get to the bottom of the case.
