Ahmad Sayuti: I was not pressured to quit
Shah Alam PAS Youth chief Ahmad Sayuti Bashiron today denied reports that he is resigning due to pressure from the party.
Shah Alam PAS Youth chief Ahmad Sayuti Bashiron today denied reports that he is resigning due to pressure from the party.
Among others, it was alleged that the pressure was related to his recording of Selangor PAS commissioner Hasan Ali’s speech, which is being investigated by the PAS disciplinary committee.
According to Ahmad Sayuti, he did not receive any such pressure or enquiries about the recording, and is only resigning because his wife is furthering her studies in Australia.
"I feel that these reports were made to undermine the people’s trust in Pakatan Rakyat. Some people are still in denial over the rakyat’s mounting hatred against Barisan Nasional," he said.
Ahmad Sayuti also said that these reports followed a string of attacks led by Umno in trying to win back Selangor.
"Umno has tried to undermine the party and Selangor government in many ways, starting from entertainment issues, the alcohol ban, cow head protest, threats to opposition representatives, khutbah (sermon) permits and so on," he added.
He also explained that he is not relinquishing his youth chief position, but is letting go of all other state level posts.
Ahmad Sayuti said his deputy will be acting on his behalf.
He however said that he will have to relinquish the youth chief post if he resides overseas for more than two years.
Divorce oath
Meanwhile on another matter, Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad defended the 'divorce oath' that he had taken, saying that it shows his commitment to "the party, the people, and (his) wife."
Asked if his wife knew about the oath, he said: "Yes, she took it as a compliment because it shows the strength of our marriage… it is not a wager."
He reiterated that he cannot be bought over due to his commitment to the family institution.
"The objective is to prevent betrayal, so what is it that would prevent betrayal? For some people it is their BMW or their RM 24 million bungalow.
"But for PAS their wives and marriages, and the value that they put in the institution of marriage," he stressed.
