The nation's anti-graft body wants a helping hand from the PKR to locate private eye P Balasubramaniam and bring him to their office.

This was revealed today by the party's Youth chief Shamsul Iskander Mohd Akin who said that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had asked him to do so as soon as possible.

Bala had revealed last month through a series of video clips posted on the Internet that he was offered RM5 million by Nazim and Deepak to retract his statutory declaration which claimed that the prime minister had close ties with murdered Mongolian beauty Altantuya Shaariibuu.

This followed the MACC report that he had lodged against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's younger brother, Nazim's alleged involvement in the purported bribery.

He was accompanied by his lawyer Yusmadi Yussof and five other federal territory and Selangor youth leaders.

Expressing suprise that the MACC had requested for his aid, Shamsul said, "They have all the facilities and avenue to locate Bala themselves."

He also told Malaysiakini that the MACC had asked for his help to get copies of Bala's first and second statutory declarations (SDs).

NONE Bala, a former Special Branch detective, had made public a controversial SD linking Deputy Premier Najib Abdul Razak to murdered Mongolian interpreter Altantuya last year.

However, the SD was retracted within 24 hours under questionable circumstances and Balasubramaniam allegedly fled overseas with his family.

Shamsul said that Abdul Rahman also probed him on his personal background and political involvement.

"The officer also asked if the report is 'mala fide' (made in bad faith). I told him that it was lodged in the national interest," he said.

He added that the officer also pressed him for further details on his sources stated in the report.

When asked if the MACC has set another date for further questioning, Shamsul said that the MACC did not do that but "will call him if there is a need to get further details".
