1,000 Perkasa, Umno members protest YBK land tax issue
Some 1,000 members of Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa) and Selangor Umno marched from the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz mosque to the Selangor State Secretary Building in Shah Alam today to protest the state government's handling of the quit rent issue involving Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan (YBK).
The group, led by Selangor Umno information chief Abdul Shukor Idrus and Selangor Perkasa president Mansor Abdullah, submitted a memorandum to the political secretary to Selangor Menteri Besar, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
Abdul Sukor said the group was disappointed with the action taken by the land office and the Hulu Langat District Office to return quit rent arrears paid by Permodalan Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan Sdn Bhd (PYBK), a subsidiary of YBK.
The RM1.28 million payment was made in August 2009 but was returned on Feb 4 this year.
"The action shows that there is abuse of power by the higher level leaders of the state government," Abdul Sukor told reporters.
Among others, the memorandum called on Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to accept the payment and approved plans to build Universiti Teknologi Mara's (UiTM) campus in Serendah as had been planned earlier.
