Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has not decided on whether to reshuffle his Cabinet, despite the election of a new MCA leadership yesterday.

He said no time frame has been set to decide on whether there will be a reshuffle, adding that he still needs to meet newly-minted MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek to discuss the matter.

"No decision has been made. We still need to analyse the results to understand what the message is which the MCA delegates are sending to us," Najib told a press conference in Parliament today.

Yesterday, Chua beat Ong Ka Ting and Ong Tee Keat in the MCA presidential race. Tee Keat is the current Transport Minister. He is set to lose his post.

Housing and Local Government Minister Kong Chor Ha was the other victim. He lost his bid for deputy presidency to Liow Tiong Lai, who is the current Health Minister.

Sex DVD scandal

Quizzed about Tee Keat and Kong's future in the Cabinet, Najib offered a curt reply: "That depends".

Asked if Chua's sex scandal would be a liability to BN, Najib said the matter was not "clear cut".

He said the party now must study the reaction of the Chinese community towards the election of the new party leadership.

"There are divergent views on the matter (but) more than 900 MCA delegates have given their trust to (Chua), so there he must have other strengths which are valued (by the delegates)," he said.

Najib also expressed hope that with the election of the new leadership, there would be no more factionalism within MCA and all leaders would close ranks.

"This can be the turning point for MCA if everyone walks the talk. But we must give them some time to forget their factions," he said.

Ahmad Ismail's return

Meanwhile the Prime Minister kept mum on speculation that Muhammad Muhammad Taib would be fielded as a candidate in the Hulu Selangor by-election.

"Who told you?... Give us sometime. We need to make the right decision, and do our research," he said.

Najib also skirted questions on the resignation of the 36 executive committee members of the Bukit Bendera Umno division today, to force re-election of office bearers to bring back the controversial Ahmad Ismail to helm the division.

"Whatever that is done must be right by the party constitution," he said.
