DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang has accused Sibu SUPP chief Wong Soon Koh of "running away" from a public debate over the Sarawak party's accusation that DAP are condoning the formation of an Islamic state in Malaysia.

NONE In his usual combative style, Lim ( right ) swatted aside Wong's demand that DAP "convince" PAS to amend its party constitution and accused Wong of shying away.

"If he believes his allegation, he should welcome a debate because I offer myself to get slaughtered by him.

"If he truly believes that a vote for DAP is a vote for PAS and an Islamic state, then why is he running away?

"Maybe because he thinks that he will get slaughtered and not me who will get slaughtered... It shows that he has a lot to hide," Lim said at their daily press conference earlier today.

Yesterday, Wong said he would only agree to a debate with Lim if the DAP can convince PAS to amend sections of its party constitution that indicate their aspiration to set up an Islamic state.

NONE Wong ( right ) cited section 3 subsection 5(i) and (ii) of PAS constitution, which states that "PAS struggles for the establishment of a society and government in this country that embodies and manifests Islamic values and laws".

PAS strategist Dzulkefly Ahmad, who was also at the press conference, denied Wong's claim that PAS' party constitution outlines plans to establish an Islamic state.

He said an Islamic state is not on the Pakatan Rakyat agenda, and neither does the clause cited by Wong indicate plans to establish an Islamic state.

"We are very clear on PAS' stand, which is for a nation of care and opportunity. It is embodied by PAS for All, our manifesto from 2004.

"We have shifted gears, They are still looking into their rear view mirror but we are moving forward," he said.
