The PKR Wangsa Maju division is demanding that Wee Choo Keong, who resigned from the party yesterday, also vacate his seat as Wangsa Maju MP.

Vowing full backing for the party and its leadership, they stressed that Wee has to seek a fresh mandate from the voters who had supported the party, and not the ‘personality.'

"His victory in the last general elections came because he contested under the PKR and Pakatan Rakyat tickets. His seat is not at his personal disposal.

"By right, he was not supposed to contest because he is not even a PKR member. He was the secretary-general of the Malaysian Democratic Party (MDP). But because of the spirit of friendship, he was allowed to contest.

"All of us party members and voters sacrificed to ensure that he wins, but Wee himself betrayed that that trust ," said Buhairi at a press conference in the PKR Wangsa Maju office this morning.

Sibu voters cast their ballots tomorrow, and rumours are rife that Wee will be in the Sarawakian town campaigning for the BN.

On whether the division was aware of Wee's decision to leave prior to his announcement, Buhairi said that he only heard rumours of it for a long time.

"His announcement was only a confirmation of our speculation," he said, adding that Wee had failed in his duties to look after his constituency.

'Wee barely served his constituency'

"Immediately after he won in the 2008 general elections, Wee barely served the constituency. All he did were to write in his blog. He only started turun padang a few months ago," Buhairi added.

"Now we admit, we made a mistake. He has a problem. And he runs away from all the problems he creates. He ran away from the DAP and he ran away from the MDP (MDP has been inactive since 2008).

"Like when he said that he resigned because of the sand-mining issue, he was never involved (in raising the issue). Wee has been very good at raising up issues such as the AirAsia, the V K Lingam and this sand-mining issues.

"But when push comes to shove, he runs away," said Yusmadi.
