The fate of student leader Ahmad Shukri Kamaruddin, whose higher education loan was temporarily suspended because of his alleged involvement in the Hulu Selangor by-election, now lies with a complaint form that his university has requested him to fill.

The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) had earlier suspended the Selangor International Islamic University College (Kuis) student’s loan along with 1,500 other new applicants from his institution, in response to the alleged offence.

Ahmad Shukri has denied the allegations, and had originally refused to fill the misconduct and discipline complaint form issued by his university.

Kuis student development department dean Muhammad Subari Ramli told Malaysiakini today that they had requested the written statement from Ahmad Shukri, as there is no police report nor complaint by any other authority about his involvement in the Hulu Selangor by-election.

ptptn one stop centre kl sentral 260307 booths The university is required to furnish the PTPTN with a satisfactory reply on the matter, failing which the latter’s chief executive had said "the PTPTN will withhold the loan application of KUIS' new students".

When contacted, Ahmad Shukri told Malaysiakini, “I will submit the form later today or tomorrow.”

Muhammad Subari in turn responded, “We will consider whether there will be any action against Ahmad Shukri, after receiving the written statement.”

Earlier, the 20-year-old had refused to furnish the university with the completed form for fear that it may result in a university  tribunal.

Ahmad Shukri says he will be meeting with Selangor menteri besar “to discuss about the status of my higher education loan.”

Meanwhile the university has not received any official statements from PTPTN on the status of the withheld 1,500 new applications.

“Members of the student representative council have been informed by the PTPTN that their applications will be processed, but however, we did not receive any official statement by the body,” said Muhammad Subari.

Malaysiakini's attempts to reach PTPTN for comments were futile.
