Police have classified the early morning death of a form four student at Kuala Lumpur's Royal Military College (RMC) as murder.

According to Cheras deputy police chief Superintendent Abdul Rahim Hamzah Othman, the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

"We found elements suggesting that a crime has been committed. We are in the process of identifying the responsible parties. So far, no arrests have been made," he said when contacted today.

He added that a police report was lodged by the military at the Sungai Besi police station at 2am.

"It was reported that the deceased had fainted and was brought to the camp hospital where they administered cardiac-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

"They lodged the police report after he was pronounced dead, after which we entered the (Sungai Besi Military Camp)," he said.

The police then brought the body to the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital (HUKM) in Cheras for a post-mortem.

According to a Defence Ministry statement issued this afternoon, the victim, Mohammad Naim Mustaqim Sobri died between 11.30pm and 1.20am, following "an incident".

The deceased, originally from Perak, was pronounced dead after emergency medical procedures were administered at the Military Medical Centre (PPAT) in the Sungai Besi Camp, the statement added.

The body was later sent to Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM) in Cheras for a post-mortem, while the military lodged a report at the Sungai Besi police station at 2am, it said.

At present, several RMC students identified as having been with the victim prior to his death have been called up to assist in police investigations.

The military's Provost Marshal Division (CPM) has also formed a special committee for preliminary investigations.

When contacted, RMC representative Mejar Zunizam bin Zainuddin said that the post-mortem has been conducted.

However, he said, the deceased's family who have already been informed, has yet to collect the body. Mohammad Naim is expected to be buried in Baling, Kedah tonight.

"We cannot reveal anything beyond that to avoid speculation," he said.

According to Bernama Deputy Cheras distriction police chief Supt Abdul Rahim Hamzah said the deceased was believed to be a victim of ragging.

He said that the matter was investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and the police are waiting for an autopsy report.
