MIC president S Samy Vellu said he appreciated Najib Abdul Razak's confidence in the party in representing the Indian community within the BN.

He also thanked the prime minister for acknowledging the MIC and his (Samy Vellu's) contributions to the community, BN and the nation.

"We will work towards achieving what he expects of us (the MIC), and hopefully by the next MIC general assembly (next year), we would have achieved them," he said when met at the final day of the two-day 64th MIC general assembly here today.

Yesterday, when opening the MIC general assembly, Najib, who is the BN chairman said he acknowledged MIC's contributions in the context of strengthening the BN.

The prime minister also told party delegates that Samy Vellu's contributions to the MIC should be recognised and that he (Samy Vellu) should not be blamed for all existing problems within the Indian community.

Najib also said Samy Vellu had raised many issues concerning the Indian community in Cabinet when he was a minister.

Samy Vellu said the MIC would continue with its struggle to ensure a better life for the Indian community.

"We will work harder in line with the prime minister’s vision of a stronger MIC," he added.
