The only approach that would solve the issue of abandoned babies is enforcement of Islam's Hudud law, according to PAS Youth chief  Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi.

Describing inclusion of sex education in the national school syllabus as "rather odd and perverse", he said that the baby dumping problem is not because the offenders were ignorant about sex.

"It is because they are so driven when it comes to sex that they decide not to wait until they are old enough to get married. It then results in regret, fear and shame - before taking the easy step (abandoning their babies)," he said in a statement today.

The implications of sex education are far-reaching in their consequences, just like the suggestion to set up a baby bank, special schools for pregnant teenagers and promoting knowledge of safe sex, said Nasrudin ( right ).

He was also reported to have said that the government had launched several pilot projects on teaching sexat school-level with encouraging results.

"It is as if the BN is trying to hide something by proposing such solutions so that the people are not focused on the core of the matter which is committing adultery and sin. It is as though sinning is not a problem for the BN," he said, claiming that only PAS and several Islamic NGOs want to prevent them.

He proposed the enforcement of Hudud laws such as whipping and stoning for those who have sinned by having sex before marriage.
