PKR Sri Muda assemblyperson Shuhaimi Shafiei did not turn up for his appointment with police at the Shah Alam police district headquarters today over concerns for his safety.

I don't know what they may say, but if police come looking for you in your house at night, I'd say they are looking to arrest you," said his aide and PKR Youth vice-chief Azmizam Zaman Huri ( left ).

He showed up at the police station to explain Shuhaimi's absence on his behalf.

The aide was accompanied by PKR vice-president Tian Chua as well as Selangor state assemblypersons Gan Pei Nei and Haniza Talha, who came with about 40 PKR supporters and Selangor government employees in support of Shuhaimi.

They group also unfurled a banner stating their support for the embattled SriMuda assemblyperson.

Azmizam said further that they need assurances the police will not arrest Shuhaimi and that the police will guarantee his safety.

"We need an official notice from the police. The must inform us why they need to see him, on what matter they need to do so and what they want from him.

“If we have these (questions answered), he will come," Afnizam told a press conference after meeting with police officers on the matter.

Malay NGOs have called for action against Shuhaimi, claiming remarks in his blog post were tantamount to "waging war against the Malay rulers".

Police were said to have looked for him last night, visiting his house and contacting his close associates, which triggered rumours that his house was raided by police and that he had already been picked up by police.

Tian Chua, who was also at press conference, said that the police pursuit of Shuhaimi smacks of "harassment" and urged the police not to involve itself in politics.

However, his aide told Malaysiakini via SMS later today that Shuhaimi has set another appointment with police for 4pm tomorrow, at his office on the fourteenth floor of the state secretariat building in Shah Alam, to have his statement recorded.
