The investigating officer into the Anwar Ibrahim sodomy trial told the court he knew the identities of the personalities who were with the politician at the Desa Damansara condominium on June 26, 2008.

NONE Anwar ( right ) had always maintained an alibi that he was at an economic meeting with five other individuals in the other condominium unit adjacent to the one where the alleged incident took place.

The owner of the two units is Hasanuddin Abdul Hamid.

Supt Jude Blacious Pereira, 58, the last and 25th prosecution witness at the trial, was replying to questions from Solicitor General II Mohd Yusof Zainal Abiden during examination-in-chief.

He said he identified the individuals from the CCTV recordings retrieved from the condo's guard house and the lift.

The recordings depict the cars which entered the condo and the people entering and leaving the lift.

The investigating officer identified the people based on the ownership of the vehicles which entered the condominium after checking with the Road Transport Department.

Besides identifying Anwar and complainant Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, Pereira said he knew four of them, while the other, he knew where he was from.

Pereira said he took statements from two of the individuals.

Those identified were former Malaysian Institute of Economic Research chairperson Professor Dr Mohd Ariff Abdul Karim, businessman and former PKR Kelantan liason chief Nik Mahmood Nik Hassan, former Bursa Malaysia chief operating officer Omar Malik Ali Merican, deputy president of Uniphonex Nik Mohd Sidek.

Another individual, which Pereira did not identify, that was present was believed to be a top official from Deutsch Bank based on the individual's car registration plate.

The investigating officer, who was the Brickfields CID chief then, told the court he viewed the CCTV recording along with police forensic audio and video specialist ASP Fauziah Che Mat, on July 22, 2008.

Pereira: Saiful examined at HKL

Pereira who is now attached to Bukit Aman's legal and prosecution division said he was investigating Anwar based on a charge of sodomy under section 377B of the Penal Code following a complaint from Saiful.

NONE He then informed his superior, Ku Chin Wah, the Kuala Lumpur CID chief. "I then went to Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) where I saw Saiful and Dr Razuin Rahimi."

Pereira ( left ) said there were three other doctors there at 9pm on June 28, 2008. They were Dr Siew Sheue Feng, Dr Razali Ibrahim and Dr Khairul Nizam Hassan.

While there, Pereira said he seized Saiful's Ralph Lauren light blue long sleeve shirt. The witness said the next day, Saiful came to IPD Brickfields at about 7.30pm, where he seized KY Jelly from the complainant.

Saiful had claimed he used it as lubricant in the alleged sodomy incident.

The police officer then went to Saiful's home at Bandar Utama at about 8.30pm, on June 29, 2008, and retrieved a pair of black pants, a Levi's underwear and a green longsleeve shirt, which he wore during the said incident.

Another blue-black underwear was retrieved from Saiful's girlfriend's house, which had been washed. It was wet then, when he retrieved it.

Pereira says on June 29 at about 12.30pm, he went to the 11-5-1 unit of the Desa Damansara condominium with a forensic team.

He found a strand of hair behind a door, while the forensic team seized a duvet and a silk carpet from 11-5-2.

Why Anwar was detained overnight

Pereira said he gave Supt Taufik Abdul Rahman a warrant of arrest which he obtained earlier from the Kuala Lumpur court to arrest Anwar.

NONE "A warrant of arrest was issued on the morning of July 15 by the court. It was executed at about 2.40pm on July 16, 2008," he said, adding that following Anwar's arrest, he recorded the politician's statement from 2.45pm to 5.40pm. Anwar was accompanied by lawyer Sivarasa Rasiah ( left )," he said.

At 8.30pm on July 16, Pereira said he brought Anwar to HKL to get a blood sample.

"Two doctors attended to him. Also present was Sivarasa. Anwar did not give the blood sample, saying the same events will happen as in 1998. I do not know what happened in 1998," he said.

Pereira said Anwar was escorted back to D9 at IPK Kuala Lumpur, and at 10.35pm, where Anwar was brought to the meeting room.

"I escorted Anwar to the lock-up. He brought with him the mineral water bottle to the lock-up. I did not see where Anwar placed the bottle but he brought it into the lock-up."

Pereira explained that Anwar was detained overnight at the lock-up, as he had to ask some more questions.

"It was late and we are bound by lock-up rules not to record statements after 6pm.

"That is why he was held at the lock-up. I took his statement the next day at about 8.35am about the HKL. I finished recording his statement at 9.20am."

Pereira said there was a toothbrush, towel, mineral water bottle and a strand of hair, retrieved from Anwar's cell by Supt Amidon Anan on the afternoon of July 17, 2008. He marked those items and handed them to chemist Nor Aidora Saedon for tests.
