PKR has hit out at PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali’s remarks to the media over the sex video allegedly featuring PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, saying they were “hurtful” to PKR and Anwar.

NONE Anwar’s right hand man and party deputy president Azmin Ali ( left ) in his Twitter page today demanded an explanation for Mustafa’s statements.

“Is it true that Mustafa Ali made those statements to hurt the feelings of PKR and Anwar? The people demand an explanation,” wrote Azmin this afternoon.

Although Azmin did not specifically identify what it is that Mustafa had said that was hurtful, it was clear that he was referring to PAS’ statement that they would put off judgement on the Carcosa sex video for now until police investigations were completed.

Not mincing his words in his second tweet, Azmin said that all party leaders should focus on the bigger picture of the Pakatan coalition, and not be a “ jaguh kampung ” (village champion).

“Leaders should follow the bigger framework and agenda of Pakatan. Don’t be a village champion with no relevance and yet still want to seek attention,” said Azmin.

Later in “friendly advice” to PAS, he said that party leaders should be careful with their statements, especially to the mainstream media.

“Leaders should be cautious when making statements to Umno-controlled media. It’s better to make written statements to avoid manipulation,” he said.

'Mainstream media misquoted me'

At a press conference at the PAS headquarters yesterday, Mustafa speaking on behalf of the party said they would withhold judgement on the alleged sex video.

NONE “PAS will not be drawn into making a decision now as it is premature. Let us wait until the police investigation is complete or the court has decided. It is not worthwhile for us to jump to conclusions.

“What if it is not... If it is proven to be Anwar we will state our stand,” Mustafa reportedly said.

However, Berita Harian , Utusan Malaysia and Star instead reported PAS saying they would review their stand in Pakatan Rakyat following the full results of the sex video investigations.

In an immediate reaction, Mustafa had told party organ Harakah Daily that he was misquoted and that statements regarding the party's stand in Pakatan never arose.

Calling the "pro-Umno" dailies "irresponsible", he said that the reports were malicious and had deliberately manipulated his statements, that Mustafa said related only to calls from certain quarters for Anwar to swear on the Quran.

According to Harakah Daily , the party sec-gen is demanding an apology as well as a correction from the said media, lest the party takes legal action against the media organisations.

While PKR has rallied to defend their de facto leader in what they call a ‘political conspiracy’, its Pakatan Rakyat partners PAS and DAP have adopted a more cautious stand.

azlan The video first surfaced slightly more than a month ago when businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah showed the footage to journalists in a hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

He later unveiled his other partners, collectively called Datuk T, to be former Malacca chief minister Rahim Thamby Chik and former Perkasa treasurer Shuib Lazim.

A short two-minute clip then surfaced on the Internet early this month, showing a woman in a bedroom with someone resembling Anwar clad in a towel.

Anwar has firmly denied that he was the man in the video while the police have stepped up their investigations, saying that the Datuk T trio may be charged for possession and distribution of obscene material.
