The crackdown against Bersih 2.0 continued today with a raid on the Kajang assemblyperson's service centre this morning, but this time the police were forced to apologise before leaving empty-handed.

pibm computer class pc 011107 lee kim sin Kajang assemblyperson Lee Kim Sin ( left ) of PKR said about 15 police personnel from the Kajang police district searched his premises at 10.15am, without a warrant, after receiving a tip-off that he was holding Bersih 2.0 paraphernalia.

"I arrived as they were leaving and told one ASP Pang that this is harassment and an inconvenience to my constituents who were there to seek my service, and the officer finally apologised.

"They told me they received a report that I was keeping a stock of Bersih headbands and such, but it obviously has no basis and the informant was unreliable," Lee said when contacted.

According to staff members, who declined to be named, police entered the premises without a search warrant and had refused to allow them to call Lee, who was not there at the time.

"They made us open up crates and cartons that contained kompang and bags we bought for a programme in the kampung," a staff member said.

Police make video recording

He said police, some of whom were in plainclothes, left about 30 minutes later, after recording the myKad numbers of the service centre staff and taking photographs and video recording for their records.

Lee said this was the first time police had visited his premises and that he had never before been questioned about the Bersih 2.0 rally.

The raid on his office came hours before a compromise was brokered between Bersih 2.0 and the government to take the July 9 rally off the streets and into a stadium.

Earlier, Selangor police announced that they had confiscated machetes, Molotov cocktails and firecrackers stashed alongside Bersih 2.0 T-shirts in three locations in Kuala Lumpur.

Police claimed that there was a high possibility that the weapons would be used in the rally planned for Saturday.

However, deputy Selangor police chief Amar Singh said he could not discount the possibility that Bersih 2.0 could have been framed.
