The spat between DAP and PKR in Johor has brought the seat negotiations to a complete breakdown, with Johor DAP chief Dr Boo Cheng Hau declaring that his party will not go to the negotiating table with PKR again.

NONE According to reports in today’s Chinese-language dailies, Boo ( left ) made the remark during a DAP dinner on Sunday, demanding his PKR counterpart Chua Jui Meng bear the full responsibility for the collapse of the negotiations.

He claimed that previous seat negotiations with all four of Chua’s predecessors had been smooth, until Chua took over the post last year.

Although the negotiations deadline is Sept 31, Boo decided to shelve them since PKR failed to show its commitment and sincerity.

“The negotiations between Johor DAP and PKR have collapsed. The central leadership will determine whether some seats will see three-cornered fights,” he was quoted as saying by China Press .

However, Chua ( right ) told China Press that all component parties of Pakatan Rakyat should set aside their differences and unite in order to topple the BN government.

“I hope all comrades of the Pakatan component parties can observe discipline and unite to pursue our ultimate target,” he was quoted as saying.

‘No reason to give way in Tangkak’

On the dispute over which party should contest in the Tangkak state constituency, Boo, who is also the Skudai state assemblyperson, reiterated that DAP has no reason to give way to PKR.

“The seat had been contested by DAP except in the 2004 general election when it was given to PKR. In the 2008 general election, we contested in Tangkak again, and requested PAS to let PKR contest in the Ledang parliamentary constituency, allowing both parties to have their base there.”

He claimed that DAP continued to serve the Tangkak constituents after they failed to capture the seat by a razor-thin majority of 295 votes.

Previously, PKR’s Ledang division had demanded that DAP “return” the Tangkak state seat to PKR, as it had been “loaned” to DAP in the 2008 general election, but this was dismissed by DAP.

The dispute , which has tarnished the image of Johor Pakatan, was sparked by Boo’s remark on micro-blogging website Twitter which criticised PKR for refusing to concede some of its seats to DAP in order for the party to contest an equal share of the parliamentary seats in Johor.

Apart from Johor, the seat negotiations for Kedah Pakatan have also hit a stalemate. It has been decided to hand over the unresolved seats issue to the central leadership which will meet tomorrow.
