The Commercial CID in Bukit Aman has begun investigation including looking at the possibility of any criminal breach of trust or cheating involved in the purchase of a luxury condominium worth RM9.8 million said to be bought using funds of the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC).

Inspector-general of police Ismail Omar in confirming the matter today said among others the investigation team would be calling on individuals involved soon to assist in the investigation.

“We have just obtained a report from MACC (Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission) yesterday. CCID (Commercial CID) director Syed Ismail Syed Azizan and his team are looking at the report... looking into whatever offences... CBT (criminal breach of trust), cheating and others. Initial investigation has begun,” he said.

He told reporters after attending a police briefing to foreign missions at the Cheras Police College in Kuala Lumpur.

The Auditor-General’s Report recently found that the NFC failed to meet the objectives of its establishment apart from the allegation of the luxury condominium purchase in Bangsar using NFC funds.

The MACC has referred to the police the report on the condominium purchase and its classification as an offence under the Penal Code which is not under the purview of the MACC Act 2009.

NFC, which was appointed to manage the National Feedlot Centre, a major livestock farming and beef production facility, became embroiled in controversy after PKR alleged it mis-spent the RM181 million government soft loan granted for the project.

azlan PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli had revealed the loan was used by NFC to purchase luxurious condominiums and an expensive overseas trip , on top of linking Umno leaders whom he claimed had benefitted from the company.

He further claimed that NFC paid RM26,400 in expenses for Women, Family and Community Development Minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, whose husband, Mohamad Salleh Ismail, is executive chairperson of the company.

However Salleh, in a press conference yesterday, denied any wrong doing and justified the condominium purchases as a sound investment.

Police to be fair and transparent

In another developement, Ismail said police would also be fair and transparent in their investigation of the missing cash from the safekeeping of an investigation officer in the robbery involving three MACC officers. 

“Investigation is still going on. If they were not following procedure in keeping the case items, they would be held responsible,” he said.

When asked whether police had suspended any of the officers from duty, he said: “The question to suspend is a process. Whatever we do, we will follow the process. We want to stop it from happening.”

“I want to stop this silly thing from happening. This represents only a small portion among us. When you highlight this incident, don’t forget we have made so many great achievements. One bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch.

“"If we do not follow procedure on the suspension of staff, my officers could sue me. So I have to act very fairly and professionally as well,” he said.

The media yesterday reported that a sum of RM11,700 in cash belonging to two of the three suspects in the US$300,000 robbery at KL International Airport in September was reported missing.   

The loss of the money kept in the wallet was found at about 2pm on Nov 9 by investigation officers involved after discovering the room door and cabinet drawers in the old building of the Selangor Police Contingent office had been forced open.
