Kuala Lumpur police chief Mohmad Salleh refused to entertain questions pertaining to allegations of extreme police brutality during last week’s the Bersih 3.0 sit-in last week.

He said no police personnel have been identified, although various eyewitness accounts on police abeating up protesters and journalists have gone viral over the Internet.

"There are no problem in investigating (them). That's why we appeal to the public to come forward with any information they have," he said.

NONE Quizzed on eye-witnesses accounts of several personnel on duty last Saturday without their  name tags and police identification numbers on their uniforms, Mohmad ( left ) said:

"Those uniforms are not like our regular uniforms... (but if) there were (police officers without their identification displayed) we can trace them by facial recognition."

However, when pressed further on a series of images depicting a traffic policeman aiming a pistol at protesters as well as other photographs and videos on police assaulting protesters,  Mohmad  shot back in irritation:

"Where is the proof? Show us. These are only allegations which must have proof. Send us the photo."

  Produce police abuse evidence

On whether he will apologise to journalist victims of police brutality and had their equipment snatched while covering the mayhem that ensued after the police fired tear gas and water cannon to disperse protesters, Mohmad simply said:  "Investigation are yet to be completed."

“I take this opportunity to appeal to the people, anyone who has information, who witnessed or were affected by police action while dispersing or apprehending individuals during the rally to come forward,” he said.

NONE Mohmad, however, urged  the public to come forth with evidence of abuse and violence by its officers and protesters during last week's rally.

Mohmad said 258 reports have been lodged on the rally.

“I take this opportunity to appeal to the people, anyone with information, who witnessed or were affected by police action while dispersing or apprehending individuals during the rally to come forward,” he said.

The police chief said they have ,to date, identified 49 individuals suspected of having violated various laws in participating in an unlawful assembly and defying police orders.
