The recent arrest of 19 suspects believed to be involved in supplying fake identification cards to illegal immigrants in Tawau has shown the government efforts in resolving the issue, said the Sabah Umno liaison deputy chairman Salleh Said.

"The police action was in line with the establishment of the royal commission of inquiry to resolve the issue of the illegal immigrants in the state which was announced by Prime Minister Najib Razak on June 1,” he told Bernama when contacted in Kota Kinabalu today.

The 19 suspects including a staff from the National Registration Department from Putrajaya were nabbed in a series of arrests since May 25.

Meanwhile, Parti Bersatu Sabah secretary-general Henrynus Amin urged the police to carry out an in-depth investigation on the matter and he described the arrest as only a small part of a bigger problem.
