The attacks on Kota Laksamana assemblyperson Betty Chew at the Malacca state assembly recently has proved that BN leaders have run out of ideas, said PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

She said the verbal onslaught hinting that Chew’s husband, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had had an affair with a former staff member was a clear pattern of character assassination against political opponents.

“It appeared that BN leaders are totally bankrupt of ideas and unable to offer a sound policy agenda to the people of Malaysia,” she said in a statement yesterday.

NONE Wan Azizah ( right ), whose husband Anwar Ibrahim has been constantly accused of scandals, also extended her sympathy to Chew.

“The attack on Betty Chew is a cowardly act aiming to humiliate a woman and her family. I pray for her to remain strong and continue to stand firm in the midst of these unethical and irresponsible attacks,” she said.

Malacca MCA chief Gan Tian Loo, during the recent Malacca state legislative assembly sitting, had hinted at impropriety in Lim’s relationship with a certain woman, and demanded that Chew answer whether she knew the woman.

Lim had denied the allegations, saying that he is not like MCA president Chua Soi Lek who was involved in an illicit sex scandal in 2008.
