Utusan's gospel truth, Malaysiakini's spin

VOXPOP 'Nong Chik, you are the one who is spinning, not Malaysiakini . You are just as good as Utusan , which has actually admitted to spinning.'

FT minister accuses Malaysiakini of 'spinning'

vox populi small thumbnail Not Confused: What poppycock from this Umno leader. If someone says that should he be the returning officer again in the Lembah Pantai constituency in the coming GE, Nurul Izzah Anwar would not win, how else can that remark be "spun"?

The implication is more than clear to anyone who understands English. Just keep tap-dancing - we all know exactly what Federal Territories Minister Raja Nong Chik Zainal Abidin meant, with or without Malaysiakini spinning it.

Odin: Yes, Malaysiakini is spinning - spinning due to the near endless streams of corrupt, despicable practices of Umno Baru and MCA, and the infantile statements made by the leaders of both parties.

It's a wonder that Malaysiakini is still standing. After all the spinning, it should have toppled to the floor by now.

Artchan: "The response of my RO (returning officer) in 2008 was, ‘No, if I become your RO again, you will not win'," said Nurul Izzah.

This is what was reported by Malaysiakini , so where is the spin? Unless the RO did not say those words, then a correction is in order. And Nurul should apologise.

The RO is quiet and Nong Chik is getting worked up.

Multi Racial: I agreed with Artchan. Malaysiakini's reporter merely reported what was said by Nurul. If the RO did not say this, then it is for the RO to sue Nurul.

Since after the publication of the report, Nurul did not said anything, then it means Malaysiakini correctly reported what she had said. The RO did not come out to disclaim what he said to Nurul, it means what Nurul said is true.

So why was Nong Chik so worked up by this? Unless of course, there is some truth in what the RO said. Nong Chik said "maybe the RO was merely expressing his opinion that it would be difficult for Nurul to win in the next GE?".

If that the case, why the RO said "if I become your RO again, you will not win?" Does this sound like someone giving an opinion?

Ksn: Nong Chik, you are the one who is spinning, not Malaysiakini . You are finding excuses for the returning officer who spoke directly to Nurul and rationalising his responses on his behalf.

You are reading his mind, which you are not capable of. So stop spinning. You are just as good as Utusan , which has actually admitted to spinning.

1Malaysia2Agama: It looks like BN lies published by Utusan Malaysia is gospel truth, while a Pakatan Rakyat leader's comments quoted in verbatim are lies spun by Malaysiakini . Welcome to Malaysia - land of lies and half-truths.

Mohan Gandhi: Raja Nong Chik, did you hear Utusan deputy chief editor Mohd Zaini Hassan's speech ? There is nobody who is capable of a bigger and faster spin than Utusan - all with Umno's approval.

Even if it means spinning a total lie, it is still fine if it undermines the opposition. What kind of ruling party is Umno, Raja Nong Chik?

P Dev Anand Pillai: This just goes to show the stage at which Umno's decline is at. It is a known fact that they can only win this elections by cheating, with the help of the ever ready Election Commission.

For those who have been spinning lies all this while, the truth will definitely hurt so the cat is out of the bag - if Nurul loses, it would have been the work of the EC.

Little Giant: The Malaysiakini reporter was shouted at and asked to get out. Unfortunately that is the price they have to pay for truthful reporting.

Malaysians know well that Malaysiakini's reporters don't have to live on spinning and deception. They can be proud of their profession and walk with their heads held high.

Gapena right to oppose Dong Zong: Perkasa

Ler Lian Wee: Gapena knows that the threat to Bahasa Malaysia's (BM) status is English, not the Chinese language.

It picks on Chinese language because it is unable/unwilling to pick on English (maybe its political master is promoting English, or maybe like a bully it prefers to pick on someone of smaller size?).

I'm wholeheartedly supportive of promoting BM as the all-purpose language of our nation. But please stop making Chinese language/culture/people the scapegoat of everything.

James1067 : The world has changed so fast that we need to make changes to accommodate the times. Economically today India and China have emerged as leaders and they boast of a huge population, providing a market for our products.

We have to change with the times so that Malaysians can compete in this world. We cannot keep arguing over race and religion. Our neighbours are not going to wait for us. They will take the opportunities, and in no time we will be left behind.

So be open minded, we have to use whatever avenue available to improve ourselves. We are not living in the 18th century but in an era where changes happen so fast that we either have to keep up or be left behind.

Timothy: Has anyone actually read Dong Zong's 10-point memorandum? If not, why are they spinning stories around?

Anonymous #72737246: For the good of the Chinese, for the good of the Malays, in the name of unity, our future, and peace in Malaysia, I urge the Malays to abandon Umno and the Chinese to abandon MCA, and both the Malays and Chinese to never return to Umno or MCA.

James1067: BN has a place in this country which no other languages can challenge. But it has its limitation.

In order to succeed and excel in this world, we have to recognise the importance of other major languages. We have to master them in order to beat the best of the best, and be on top.
