Police have advised the public not to politicise and sensationalise the death of the 26-year-old man, believed to be a gang member, after being shot by police in Ampang last Tuesday.
Selangor police chief Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah said the action of politicising and sensationalising the case through social media would only disturb police investigation.
“Let the police investigate the case in a transparent manner to ensure justice to all quarters,” he told a press conference at the Selangor police contingent headquarters in Shah Alam today.
In the incident last Tuesday, police were alerted about a gang fight in Pandan Perdana at about 1.15am before an eight-men team were deployed to the scene.
Realising the presence of police, the suspect and four of his friends fled the scene in a Hyundai car before being chased and intercepted by a police car in Tasik Permai.
The five suspects, aged between 26 and 30, then got out of the car and tried to attack the policemen using a machete, butcher’s knife and iron rods, causing the policemen to fire two shots at them in defence, before having them arrested.
One of the shots hit the 26-year-old suspect and he was taken to Ampang Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries at about 6am two days later.
Tun Hisan said 33 statements on the incident had been recorded and six individuals involved in the fight had been taken to court so far.
He also called on the family of the deceased and the man who lodged the report on the incident to come to the nearest police station to facilitate in the investigation.
