PAS-linked NGO Kempen Anti Saman Ekor (Kase) today called into question why the Automated Enforcement System (AES) for traffic offences is not installed at accident-prone areas when its purpose was reportedly to prevent road accidents.

“We are doubtful that the system installation locations are at traffic-prone areas. Some are at 50kph areas and 70kph areas.

NONE “What will collide there, a python and a turtle? Or between bullock carts?” asked its chairperson Mahfuz Omar ( right ), who is also PAS Pokok Sena MP, at a press conference in the parliament lobby today.

He urged the Road Transport Department to given them the actual list of accident-prone areas to be compared with the AES sites.

Mahfuz, who came to Parliament House fresh from visiting several AES sites, also said that reports he received have claimed that the system has a technical glitch when it comes to differentiating between the numbers zero, six and nine.

The system’s number recognition allegedly recorded six and nine as zero from its photos.

Mahfuz also echoed the bipartisan cry which rose in parliament yesterday, calling for the system to be postponed as technical glitches are ironed out, more studies and consultation with stake holders held and the speed limits streamlined on targeted sites.
