Former Selangor PAS chief Hasan Ali suspected that the MCA’s recent anti-hudud vitriol and subsequent DAP reaction was part of an elaborate plot by the Chinese community to further their political interest.

In a press release today, Hasan said that both parties may appear to have diverging ideologies on the surface, but it should be viewed as mere "acting".

NONE The Jalur Tiga (Jati) president postulated that MCA, which represents the  Chinese community, knew that it would only draw a "nominal" amount of votes in the coming general election and it would be "more logical" if they helped DAP.

He said that this would make DAP the "absolute representative" of the Chinese community and be able to articulate their demands.

"The little voice in my heart keeps telling me that there appears to be some understanding between MCA and DAP, especially in facing the 13th general election," he said.

Hasan was referring to the MCA annual general meeting over the past weekend which saw party president Dr Chua Soi Lek and delegates taking repeated swipes at PAS' ambitions to implement an Islamic state and hudud law.

Chua had repeatedly stated that the party was not against Islam and was only against PAS' interpretation of hudud law.

The 'grand design'

Several DAP leaders have spoken out against MCA's anti-hudud tirade, arguing that it was disrespectful to Muslims.

Expanding his argument further, Hasan said that this spot of "political acting" was nothing more than the execution of the Chinese community's "grand design".

NONE "My little voice is also telling me that the Chinese have a 'grand design' which transcends political ideologies.

"Political ideologies may differ on the surface, but it is nothing more than just acting. They have a bigger agenda," he said.

Given this "grand design", Hasan asked aloud if the Malay leaders of different political backgrounds should continue to be at odds with each other.

"As far as I know from my experience in PAS' top leadership, the relationship between Malay political parties was almost akin to berkerat rotan berpatah arang (bridge almost burnt).

"Statements from the mouths of PAS and PKR leaders on the question of Malay-Muslim unity says everything," he said.
