Any fan wanting to attend Malaysian badminaton player Lee Chong Wei's wedding could try his or her luck with a posting on his Facebook page for a chance to win an invitation limited to ten.  

The Olympic silver medallist is getting hitched to sweetheart Wong Mew Choo on Nov 9 and the chosen few will be able to rub shoulders with celebrities and government dignitaries, local media reported.

NONE The competition, likely to trigger some feverish online traffic, begins on Sunday to close on Nov 5, Chong Wei’s press office said.

Hopefuls, who must first click 'like' under Chong Wei’s fan page, are invited to explain why they wish to attend the wedding reception at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

"The 10 best comments will be picked by Chong Wei and his would be wife, Wong Mew Choo, based on creativity," Sachi Choo of Chong Wei’s agency told the Bernama news agency.

Results will be announced on Nov 6 and will be of some interest to officials from the Prime Minister's office, Health and Trade Ministries, who have confirmed their attendance.

Journalists up in arms

Meanwhile, Chinese newspapers today reported that journalists were piqued by Chong Wei’s multiple press conferences ahead of the wedding.

Yesterday’s press conference - which Chong Wei did not personally attend - was the second thus far with four more to come. Some journalists felt that they were being turned into  propaganda machines for Chong Wei's sponsors.

According to her, Chong Wei was “insincere” and was exploiting the media.

She complained that despite the multiple press conferences prior to Chong Wei’s wedding, only selected media are allowed to cover the banquet.

Siad Huey’s Facebook posting drew support from many journalists and netizens, but there were those who disagreed with her views.

In response to the controversy, Chong Wei told Guang Ming Daily yesterday that he had just returned from a match in Denmark, and as such was unable to attend yesterday's press conference.

He said the marathon press conferences were the result of the media repeatedly asking for information on the progress of his wedding plans.
