A PKR party worker who was slashed in Terengganu on April 12 said he knows the assailants and claimed that they are Umno supporters.

Hasri Hassan told reporters that he would probably not forgive them even if they apologise.

“I know them. They have been gangsters for a long time,” he claimed in a weak voice.

He had been brought on a stretcher to PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya today, where a press conference was held.

PKR Terengganu chief Azan Ismail said Hasri had been attacked with sticks and machetes by 16 men while putting up party flags in Kemaman.

He said Hasri received about 50 stitches, mostly around limbs.

A police report was lodged yesterday over the incident .

On a separate matter, Hasri denied rumours that two individuals arrested for distributing VCDs of a sex video in Besut are members of PKR’s youth wing, AMK.

The videos purportedly feature PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali, who has denounced the video as “pure slander”.

Four suspects arrested

Bernama reported today that police have arrested four men, two of them brothers, over Hasri's assault.

Inspector-general of police secretariat (Public Relations) assistant head Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said the suspects, aged between 28 and 44, were detained in front of the Chukai police station in Kemaman at 6.45pm yesterday.

They are under investigation for rioting and causing hurt, he said at a briefing on the 13th general election at Bukit Aman in Kuala Lumpur.

Ramli reminded political party supporters to exercise caution and respect the law so as to avert untoward incidents.

"The permission of the local authorities is necessary to put up party flags and this will prevent incidents such as quarrels and fights," he said.

He said party supporters should avoid raising issues of a racial nature or using intimidation to avert quarrels and chaos which might undermine the reputation of the country.
