Workers cleaning up the site where a 20-metre lightning arrestor pole on Menara Umno in Jalan Macalister collapsed two days ago, today found broken parts believed to be from a car that was buried in the mud at the site.

NONE State executive councillor Phee Boon Poh said he was informed that the broken parts were from a Honda City car believed to belong to a man who was reported missing since the day of the incident.

However, so far no trapped victim has been found at the site and the latest discovery of the broken car parts brings the number of damaged cars in the mishap to eight.

A Lebuh Pantai Fire and Rescue Station spokesperson when contacted said the broken car parts were found during digging work, while Bernama observed that the work was still going on and the roads around the site still closed to traffic.

Man falls into pool of mud

There was a brief commotion at the site when a worker was saved from falling into a pool of mud by others after he was believed to have a fit. The man was then taken to hospital for treatment.

NONE On Thursday, the lightning arrestor pole on the Umno building was toppled by strong wind during a storm, damaging the road and some vehicles.

In the 6.45pm incident, a foreign worker was also killed when the pole came crashing down on a lorry he was in together with a colleague.

It was reported that 293 houses in several parts of the state were also damaged during the storm.
