The people’s acceptance of the 1Malaysia concept mooted by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has reached 86.4 percent, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Communication and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the percentage was obtained following a survey done last year, involving a total of 30,077 multi-racial respondents from across the country.

NONE “The foundation of the 1Malaysia concept is how to improve mutual understanding and tolerance among the people, and overall, I believe that the concept has been accepted by all quarters.

“This is because the concept of 1Malaysia does not provide a justification that those who support the concept must only support one party. In fact, the concept allows differences in terms of opinion, ideology and cultural practice.”

He said this in reply to Dr Makin @ Marcus Mojigoh (BN-Putatan) during question time. Makin had wanted to know the level of acceptance of the people, including among the non-Malays, of the 1Malaysia concept.

Ahmad Shabery said despite efforts by the opposition to undermine the concept, the various 1Malaysia-based products introduced by the government continued to be widely accepted by the people.

Among the products are the 1Malaysia People’s Aid, 1Malaysia Clinic and 1Malaysia People’s Shop.

“The 1Malaysia concept is a brand that must be linked to its products,” he said, adding that the ministry was prepared to carry out a new survey on the people’s acceptance of the concept, especially after the 13th general election.
