The five-day ‘People's Tribunal’ on the 13th general election will kick off tomorrow in a bid to uncover details of alleged fraud and to assess the evidence supplied.

azlan Set up by the coalition for clean and fair elections (Bersih), the hearings will be conducted from 9am to 5pm each day at the Empire Hotel in Subang Jaya, Selangor.

Gurdial Singh Nijar, an eminent lawyer who acted as the chief prosecutor during the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal in 2011, will conduct the tribunal and present the case for the people.

The five-member tribunal will be headed by Yash Pal Gai, a constitutional expert for the United Nations Development Programme in Nepal.

There are three Malaysians - lawyer Azzat Kamaludin, former Universiti Malaya associate professor Mavis Puthucheary, and Malaysian Church Council secretary-general Herman Shahstri.

Former Indonesian election commission director Ramlan Surbakti, and Asean Inter-Parliamentary Myanmar Caucus president Kraisak Choonvahan are the other two members.

The Election Commission has rejected Bersih’s invitation to participate in the tribunal, while it remains to be seen whether BN representatives will be present.
