Gerakan leaders are peeved with MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek's remarks that the party would be another Gerakan if it goes under the leadership of his deputy Liow Tiong Lai.

He blasted Chua for dragging Gerakan into MCA's internal fracas, where the latter is engaged in an open squabble with Liow.

"Chua should step down and be responsible for MCA which caused Gerakan's loss (in the general elections)," said Chang.

Chua made the offensive remarks when he offered to quit the party if Liow did the same.

He also accused Liow of being "a weak leader, without his own stand".

"When there is a big issue, he will 'seam' (escape in Hokkien)," reportedly said Chua of the Bentong MP, in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Chua and Liow have been on the war path since the latter placed the blame for MCA's loss in the last polls on the former, which he described as "immoral" due to his involvement in a sex video scandal in 2008.

That controversy forced Chua wto bow out as health minister.

NONELiow, who was health minister from 2008 until May 5, is going head to head with Chua (right) for the presidency in the party's internal polls due in December.

In Kedah, state Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang expressed disappointment with Chua's statement, saying he should not involve the party in its political mess or drag an outsider into its own problems.

"In the spirit of BN, Chua should not drag Gerakan into MCA's mess," he told Malaysiakini.

"In Gerakan, we don't bad mouth anyone to boost our own ego," added the vocal leader.

"If Chua is unable to resolve his party issue, then he should let other leaders in MCA do so," Tan stressed.
