The issue, noted Selangor MCA publicity chief Yap Pian Hon (left), has been dragging on for months.
"Kajang residents are deeply troubled by the dispute and question what might have caused the confrontation?
"Is there a power struggle or certain abuse of power or conflict of interest? The state government must be transparent in revealing the truth," he said in a statement.
Yap was responding to the motion tabled by the councillors to remove their president which has resulted in the monthly meetings meant to resolve the problems of residents not being able to be conducted smoothly.
The motion was tabled in August and agreed upon by all 23 councillors who were present at the MPKj full board meeting.
In a report by The Star then, MPKj councillor Muhmad Hamidi Mohd Nazir, who spoke on behalf of the group, said: "We are anxious and worried about MPKj’s performance, administration and management, which is flawed, weak, unfriendly to councillors and filled with unhealthy tendencies and dubious practices."
"We resorted to this move as we realised that MPKj’s failure to function properly and with integrity will affect its ability to implement policies set by the state government to benefit the people," he had added.
Meanwhile, Yap said that any local government which cannot achieve consensus and embroiled in a dispute should in accordance with Section 10 (7) of the Local Government Act 1976 refer the matter to the menteri besar whose decision shall be final and binding.
"What is shocking is despite several months of turmoil, the state government continues to remain silent, and makes no direction or decision, which results in suspicion amongst the residents is the state government has willfully concealed the dark secrets in MPKj," he added.
Yap said the residents and taxpayers of Kajang have the right to know what is the cause of this protracted turmoil.
"The state government must not run away from its responsibility and must as soon as possible announce the truth behind the stalemate," he added.
