Former Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) officer Ahmad Faizal Azhar was today sentenced to jail and fined RM1.28 million for 15 counts of making false claims in excess of RM184,000.

According to a press release by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the total jail term amounted four years for each offence, or 60 years in total. The sentence will run concurrently.

Sessions Court Judge Asmadi Hussin ruled that if Ahmad Faizal, 41, was unable to pay the fine, he would face an additional sentence of 15 years jail for each offence.

According to Star Online, Asmadi was allowed a stay for the imprisonment term pending appeal. Bail was set at RM50,000. However, a stay application for the fine was disallowed.

Ahmad Faizal, who was an MPSJ community service assistant director, was charged with forging 15 invoices for the supply of 98 Zon Bersih sign boards and 460 dumpsters worth RM256,120.

The invoices were submitted to MPSJ corporate and planning director Hamizun Mohd Basar and community development department director Haini Salleh at the MPSJ headquarters on Jan 7, Nov 30 and Dec 30, 2011.

Asmadi ruled that Ahmad Faizal's defence was a bare denial and failed to raise reasonable doubt.

The prosecution was led by DPP Nor Azah Kasran from the MACC while Ahmad Faizal was represented by Mohd Shahrullah Khan Nawab Zadah Khan.
