As we are soon celebrating World Press Freedom Day 2001, it is worthwhile for us, journalists and consumers of mass media alike, to reflect on what the American philosopher, poet and novelist George Santayana (1863-1952) once remarked: "Those who do not understand the past are condemned to relive it."
