Following criticism by the Christian community, the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has had several alleged anti-Christian Facebook pages removed.

Its chairperson Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi said this included the ‘ Semenanjung Malaysia Anti Sabah and Sarawak ’ page.

“We contacted Facebook (administrators) and several such fanpages have been removed,” he said in a press conference today.

Even so, he said that MCMC’s investigations into the Facebook page are still ongoing.

Facebook maintains its own principles on what content should be allowed on its platform. Users as well as governments can make complaints to Facebook, from which Facebook will determine if such pages violate their policy.
