Stung by the DAP Socialist Youth’s dubbing of MCA’s Kajang by-election candidate Chew Mei Fun as a “recycled candidate”, MCA Youth has responded in like manner.

Responding to the jib by DAP Socialist Youth head Teo Kok Seong, MCA Youth secretary-general Leong Kim Soon called PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim a "parachute candidate".

"While Teo claims that MCA has run out of candidates, I want to point out that Anwar himself is not a new face.

"In fact, he is a parachute candidate and not a native of Selangor," Leong said.

He said MCA had co-opted Chew due to her "strong principles" and "capabilities", while Anwar is contesting the March 23 polls "with the sole purpose of getting into power".

"I might also add that this by-election was engineered by Anwar’s party in the first place, violating the principles of democracy and abusing the people’s trust and taking their support for granted," he said.

"In fact, they did not even bother to inform their own partners DAP and PAS. Are these the trademarks of a principled leader? I do not think so.”

Leong pointed out that Anwar did not make good on his promise to retire from politics if Pakatan Rakyat did not win Putrajaya in the 13th general election.

"What kind of leader does not bother to keep his own promises made in public while shamelessly promoting himself in order to gain power?" he asked.
