KAJANG Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has urged Puteri Umno to warn Kajang voters against falling for mass billboards featuring PKR candidate Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail praying.

He said that as much as Wan Azizah deserves sympathy, her husband Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy conviction has nothing to do with BN.

"There are now pictures of Wan Azizah praying for justice (for Anwar). That’s fine. We agree and sympathise.

"But this is our judicial system... Why point the finger at us?" he asked.

"Tell this to kakak-kakak  (ladies) who look at the picture and are affected. They are trying to use sentiments to show that we are cruel."

'Even BN members are convicted'

Muhyiddin, who addressed about 100 Puteri Umno members at a zumba exercise event, said that Anwar is not the only person convicted of sodomy in Malaysia nor the first politician convicted of a crime.

"Only the others are everyday joe's so no one cares about their story. The law affects all, rich or poor. Even BN people have been convicted and jailed," he said.

The difference is, he said, Anwar has tried at least 70 times to postpone his case and that everyone is tired of waiting.

"Not that I have been sitting around waiting over the case in court. We have lots of other things to do," he said.

S'gor gov't caused prices to go up

Muyiddin also said that although cost of living is high on the list of Kajang voters concerns, it is untrue that the rakyat is suffering because of the BN.

In fact, he said, it is actually the raising of the cost of business licences by the PKR-led Selangor government which led to higher goods and services prices.

"I realise there are problems we face like higher electricity tariff and tolls, but I need not elaborate on this as we have already announced that tolls hikes has been scrapped for this year.

"We have done this because we don't want the rakyat to be burdened. The BN will not shirk its responsibilities...

"I don't know how many Malaysians have died of hunger but I know that many die of overeating leading to heart disease, diabetes and obesity, so it is good that we have this zumba event," he quipped.
