On Bible issue, Selangor MB a major letdown

YOURSAY ‘Why must Khalid appease the extremists in Jais instead of being fair...’

Bible Society to dodge Jais with move to KL

Anonymous_3f4b: The Bible Society of Malaysia’s (BSM) move to Kuala Lumpur is a slap in the face for Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim.

Why is it so difficult to rein in Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) and tell them off for its improper raid on BSM’s office?

Why must Khalid appease the extremists in Jais instead of being a fair and impartial menteri besar? Why is the state exco so lame in the wake of this scandal?

If Khalid, and by extension Pakatan Rakyat, cannot protect and guarantee the rights of the non-Muslims and in particular the Christians, what moral right have they got to demand support from the people?

BSM have to shift their office to the federal territories to be in the umbra of the 10-point plan mooted by the federal government because of the ineptitude and indifferent stance of the Selangor state government in not honouring the plan and instead going on a witch-hunt on their own using state religious apparatus with their blessings and implicit consent in the name of state laws which they can revoke anytime. What a bunch of hypocrites.

Corgito Ergo Sum: Many are disappointed with Selangor's stand. Like Pontius Pilate, MB Khalid has washed his hands off the issue. But the stains will remain for long time.

When you needed their vote, the Christians delivered. If on such a simple issue you are stumbling, how can Christians expect you to be decisive on larger issues.

Although I will never go back to BN, I rather think you need to take a rest for awhile.

Joepaul: I have always had much respect for MB Khalid for the way he has managed Selangor. But on this issue he is a total disappointment. Why is it so difficult for him to make a stand against the religious bigots?

Instead he seems to be standing aside to allow the religious goons to have their way. Does he secretly agree with them. We can only respect leaders who are prepared to stand up for justice irrespective of who the victims are.

Wg321: BSM is behaving like a refugee running away from persecution in their own country, from one state to another.

Even if they import the Malay bibles from Penang, their truckload of the bibles still have to pass through enemy territories such as Kedah, Perak and even Selangor where all these states have the same Islamic religious laws.

If they shipped their Malay bibles by air from Penang, Jais will be waiting for them at KLIA and Subang airport. So shifting their base from Selangor to Kuala Lumpur is not a solution.

Anonymous #06188481: BSM by relocating outside Selangor is playing into the hands of Jais.

BSM's move is emboldening Jais and is seen as a success as far as Jais is concerned. It is now free to pursue its ultimate aim of eliminating all things Christian from Selangor. This is similar to curtailing the sale of pork to only certain areas in Shah Alam.

Soon BSM president Lee Min Choon will be conferred a datukship by the federal government for making more Christians losing faith in Pakatan Rakyat. He is playing politics among Christian organisations. Idris Jala is his personal friend.

I doubt he discussed this matter with CFM (Christian Federation of Malaysia), NECF (National Evangelical Christian Fellowship), etc; this is a matter of serious concern for the Christian community and it is pregnant with implications for the future of Christian growth in Malaysia.

Now, I suppose Jais will be even bolder in raiding churches in Selangor. An icon that is a bastion for Christianity has surrendered its right to be based in Selangor

Hot Khong: DAP leader Lim Kit Siang always has a lot to say about injustice in Malaysia... now is a good time to speak up.

LKS, please show that you care about righting wrongs, even when it may be politically inconvenient. DAP has far more influence on this Selangor issue than barking about  federal issues of the BN government.

Kawak: Time’s up for MB Khalid to step down. We want a Pakatan leader who have guts to be assertive and being fair, not just a good corporate leader.

Banzai: The true colours of Khalid is beginning to show. Instead of asking BSM to stay, he arrogantly said that "We never intervened with the Bible Society, they chose to move by themselves and it is not our decision.”

Khalid, is that the way to treat BSM? The decision for BSM to move is because of your failure to address their problem. Remember Jais is under Selangor and you are powerless to contain them. It’s time that you go also.

Paul Warren: The way all this has been dealt with by both the Pakatan as well as the BN only suggests one thing. Things can only get worse. The so-called social contract is non-existent and the non-Malays better think of moving out.

This is Malaysia and only the Malays can live in harmony... well so they think they can. It is when Arabism and Talibanism comes in and weighs itself on the Malay population... maybe then the silent majority will get their well-earned quarter.

TC Chan: When push comes to shove, the Pakatan government of Selangor is a pushover. It has the overwhelming numbers in the state assembly to repeal or amend the enactment but it dared not as to do so as it would apparently seen as a challenge to the sultan.

Instead it tried to pin the issue on the federal government. What a major letdown.
